It\u2019s hard to resist the temptation to buy some after grocery\nshopping. In fact, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average American\nchews almost two whole pounds of the stuff every year. You would think that,\nlike most treats, gum is bad for your pearly whites, but that\u2019s actually not the\ncase. Luckily, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marshdentalpa.com\/contact-us.html\">dental<\/a>\nchewing gum comes with multiple benefits. Continue reading to learn more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Make Sure Your Gum Is Sugarless <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gum that has sugar is just as likely as candy to give you\ncavities. Sugar-free gum, on the other hand, actually has several benefits,\nsuch as removing excess food particles from the surface of your teeth. The act\nof chewing also stimulates the production of saliva. Although that sounds\ngross, you actually want more saliva in your mouth, not less. Saliva helps\nclear away food debris, neutralizes the acids in any food and drink you just consumed,\nand can even strengthen your teeth. According to the American Dental Association,\nit\u2019s best to chew sugarless gum for about 20 minutes right after eating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose Gum with Xylitol <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can, take a look at the ingredients on the package\nnext time you buy some gum while stuck in line at the checkout counter. Many sugar-free\ngums use xylitol, a sugar substitute, as a sweetener. In fact, some studies\nhave shown that xylitol can reduce the number of cavity-causing bacteria in the\nmouth after chewing. Unlike sugar, xylitol cannot fuel these bacteria, so they don\u2019t\nhave the energy to wreak havoc on your pearly whites. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some Gum Even Strengthens Your Teeth <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, some gum manufacturers are starting to create gum\nwith a chemical called casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate, also\nknown as CPP-ACP. This substance is more commonly known by its trademark name\nRecaldent, and is said to be able to remineralize and harden tooth enamel, providing\na boost of protection against cavities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is Chewing Sugarless Gum a Substitute for Brushing and Flossing?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>No. While chewing sugar-free gum for 20 minutes after a meal\nor snack can certainly help if you don\u2019t have access to your toothbrush, it\u2019s\nnot as good as the real thing. If you are able to brush and floss, though, you\nshould always do so, as it\u2019s significantly better for your oral health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you love chewing gum, this is good news for you.
